A “bowl which is a round thing to hold liquids”, OED meaning 1, comes to Modern English through Dutch and Old High German words meaning “swell”, as in a round seed boll, and the stray w is just an exciting orthographic special effect.  A “bowl which is a sphere or ball” is the first, obsolete definition under OED meaning 2, which has to do with playing games of skill… like bowls!  That word comes to us through French from Latin “round thing”.

So!  The uses at 08.029 and 08.092 are not food related. Completely different word!
